We gleaned a thorough knowledge and exposure to Goan history, culture and ethos through working with our father, and who was regularly entrusted by the then Portuguese government to capture important events and crucial projects through his creative camera. Mr. Shamrao Phadte in fact, was the very first artist commissioned to shoot documentary films for the then Portuguese government in Goa. An unparalleled sculptor, a renowned photographer, and an exceptional portrait artist of his time, Mr. Shamrao Phadte was a very well respected, talented and much in demand artist. Despite the difficulties of his time he wanted to start his own film studio. We remember how pained he was when his hard earned equipment was washed away in an accident. But that didn’t stop him from producing his enchanting artwork. His work still marks the walls of Goa and foriegn land.

I stepped in time and again to help my father with aspects like drawing, shading and blending the tones; and I didn’t even realize when I fit into the shoes of an artist. I went on to pursue A Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts and Majored in Audio Visuals at Goa University. I developed a symbiotic relationship with art and began exploring and mastering parallel arenas like drawing, painting, photography, film making and animation. Receiving global acclaim for our short films and Short Documentary Films has opened a wider creative canvas. As a child I found the moving images incredibly perplexing, and that curiosity hasn’t slimmed a bit. I dearly value my team of veteran whizzes that help my projects with their pooled expertise. But I also make it a point to occasionally launch new bohemian talents – artistic or technical – and try to tap into their originality.
